15 billion dollars in tourism revenues expected by the end of the year

Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) Board Member Birol Akman stated that Turkey has gained confidence in attracting foreign tourists, and that if there is no negative situation during the pandemic process, it can generate up to $ 15 billion in tourism revenue by the end of 2020.

Akman, who is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TÜROFED) and President of the Anatolian Tourism Operators Association (ATİD), said in a statement to AA correspondent that there was a revival in tourism before and during the Feast of Sacrifice, which will partially relieve the sector.

Birol Akman stated that although it is not possible for Turkey to approach the target of 60 million tourists due to the pandemic, if people fully comply with the rules in the normalization process, they hope that the tourism sector can overcome the crisis environment more easily.

Akman said, “If the number of tourists continues at these levels and there is no negative situation such as the second wave during the pandemic process, I think our country will earn 12, 13, or even 15 billion dollars in tourism at the end of 2020.”

Emphasizing that Turkey has successfully fought to solve the problems experienced in tourism with the pandemic and managed the process well, Akman stated that the Safe Tourism Certificate and the audits made were very correct decisions.

Akman noted the following:

“Due to the pandemic in Spain and Greece, Europeans decided not to go there and started coming to Turkey. This is a success of our Ministry of Culture and Tourism. We need to continue this, we need to follow it, we need to be organized, and we need to do the inspections properly. In the Mediterranean, in Bodrum, bars and restaurants are open, it is thought that they are acting relaxed, but inspections are being carried out and measures are being taken. If there are no inspections, Europeans will not come. Nowadays, 50 thousand tourists land in Antalya every day. When the tourists started to arrive, closed hotels in Antalya started to serve and 90 percent of the hotels are now open. Inspections will continue to be carried out, of course, if everyone, tourists and tourists act in accordance with the pandemic rules, there will be no problems, otherwise there may be consequences that we do not want.”

Emphasizing that Turkey is the safest country on vacation, Akman added that Turkey is also the country that can make the most effective intervention in case of possible negativities in terms of patient care.
