The total trade volume between Turkey and the African continent was 186.5 billion dollars in the 2010-2019 period.
According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent, the visits to the countries of the African continent and the close relations established had a positive impact on Turkey’s trade. Considering the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, 186.5 billion dollars of trade was made between Turkey and the countries of the African continent in the 2010-2019 period. Of this figure, $122 billion (65 percent) came from trade with North African countries, and the rest came from trade with other African countries. During this period, compared to Turkey’s exports of 126.7 billion dollars, 59.8 billion dollars of imports were made from continental countries.
Egypt is the most important country in foreign trade with Africa
When examined on a country basis, the country with the highest exports on the continent as of last year was Egypt with 3.3 billion dollars. The energy group ranked first in exports to Egypt with 558.9 million dollars. This group was followed by iron and steel with 420.5 million dollars, and boilers, machines and mechanical devices with 291.7 million dollars. After Egypt, the countries with the highest exports were Morocco with 2.3 billion dollars and Libya with 1.9 billion dollars.
In terms of imports, Egypt was the continental country with the most imports, with 1.8 billion dollars as of 2019. Egypt was followed by the Republic of South Africa with 757.6 million dollars and Algeria with 720.3 million dollars.
Türkiye declared 2005 as the “Year of Africa”. In addition, the number of destinations to which Turkish Airlines flies directly in Africa has been increased. In addition to flights, the increase in the number of embassies played an important role in the development of Turkey’s trade volume with the continent.
