2 thousand lira for the unemployed!

Opportunities provided to the unemployed are being increased. The button was pressed to increase the salary paid to workers when they become unemployed, to extend its duration and to make it easier to benefit. In the current system, those who lose their jobs against their own will and fault receive salary provided that they have worked continuously by paying premiums in the last 120 days and have paid unemployment insurance premiums for at least 600 days in the last 3 years.

According to the information obtained, it is being considered to reduce the period of full premium payment from 120 days to 30 days before leaving the job, and the requirement of 600 days of premium payment in the last 3 years to 100 days, and to abolish the condition of being dismissed out of one’s own fault. Extending the duration and increasing the amount of unemployment salary is also on the agenda. According to the news of Takvim, in the current system, the average gross earnings in the last 4 months are taken into consideration when granting unemployment benefits. A salary of 40 percent of the earnings is paid. The salary cannot exceed 80 percent of the gross minimum wage.

GRADUAL INCREASE

Currently, the unemployment salary is 653 liras at the lowest and 307 liras at the highest after the stamp tax is deducted. The formula of gradually increasing the upper limit of unemployment salary is being considered. Experts state that the upper limit of the unemployment salary can be increased to one thousand 500 liras first and then up to 2 thousand liras. In addition, while unemployed people are currently paid a salary for up to 10 months, it is being considered to be increased up to 15 months.

A FUND ALSO COMING FOR BAĞ-KUR MEMBERS

A study is underway to establish the ‘unemployment fund’, which is activated when workers become unemployed, also for tradesmen. The details of the system have not yet been finalized, but when the fund is established, tradesmen will pay unemployment insurance premiums every month. They will also be able to receive money from the fund when they become unemployed. State contribution to the fund is also being considered. Customs and Trade Minister Bülent Tüfenkci stated that there is a study to establish an unemployment fund for tradesmen and said, “One leg of this is tradesmen, one leg is the state. The state is ready to contribute,” he said.
