200 million lira contribution to the economy from Ilısu Dam in 2 months

According to the statement made by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), Ilısu Prof. Dr. The first turbine of Veysel Eroğlu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) was commissioned on May 19, 2020.

With the commissioning ceremony of the first turbine, where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez made speeches, the turbine with an installed capacity of 200 megawatts started production.

Located on the Tigris River, Ilısu Prof. Dr. While the installed power of Veysel Eroğlu Dam will be 1200 megawatts, an average of 4 billion 120 million kilowatt-hours of energy will be produced annually with this investment. Ilısu is the second largest dam in the country after the Atatürk Dam. In addition, Ilısu Dam ranks first in the world in terms of fill volume of the “rock fill dam with concrete front face” type.

DSI General Manager Kaya Yıldız, whose views were included in the statement, stated that a total of 3 units have been commissioned in the Ilısu Dam so far and that these units have been temporarily accepted and transferred to Elektrik Üretim AŞ (EÜAŞ). Yıldız said, “400 million kilowatt-hours of energy were produced in the dam within 2 months, contributing approximately 200 million liras to the country’s economy. Testing work continues in the remaining 3 units. All units of the dam are planned to be commissioned this year. Thus, when the Ilısu Dam is completed, it will contribute 2 million kilowatt-hours to the country’s economy per year. “It will contribute 8 billion liras.” he said.
