Air passengers reached 164 million in 9 months

In 9 months of the year, air passenger traffic in Turkey increased by 11.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 163 million 987 thousand 652.

Directorate General of State Airports Authority (DHMI) announced airline, air passenger and cargo statistics for September.

Accordingly, the number of aircraft landing and taking off at airports in September was 79 thousand 813 with a decrease of 5.2 percent on domestic flights and 68 thousand 9 with an increase of 7.1 percent on international flights compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the same month, overflight traffic increased by 12.2 percent to 43 thousand 51. Thus, the total number of aircraft traffic, including overflights, increased by 2.6 percent and reached 190 thousand 873.

In September, domestic passenger traffic at Turkish airports decreased by 2.7 percent to 9 million 870 thousand 47 and international passenger traffic increased by 12.1 percent to 10 million 897 thousand 477.

Thus, total passenger traffic including direct transit passengers increased by 4.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 20 million 785 thousand 281.

As of September, cargo (cargo, mail and baggage) traffic at airports decreased by 2.5 percent to 90 thousand 335 tons on domestic routes, increased by 11 percent to 292 thousand 224 tons on international routes and increased by 7.4 percent to 382 thousand 559 tons in total.

Activity continued at Istanbul airports

Passenger traffic at Istanbul Atatürk Airport was recorded as 6 million 134 thousand 375 in September, with a total increase of 1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, including 1 million 719 thousand 594 passengers on domestic routes with a decrease of 2 percent and 4 million 414 thousand 781 passengers on international routes with an increase of 3 percent.

Passenger traffic at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport increased by 4 percent to 3 million 76 thousand 360 last month compared to the same month of 2017, including 1 million 992 thousand 563 passengers with a 3 percent increase in domestic routes and 1 million 83 thousand 797 passengers with a 7 percent increase in international routes.

Izmir Adnan Menderes, Antalya, Gazipaşa Alanya, Mugla Dalaman, Mugla Milas-Bodrum, Antalya, Gazipaşa Alanya, Mugla Dalaman and Mugla Milas-Bodrum airports located on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts experienced a significant increase in the number of international passengers in September.

International passenger traffic at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport increased by 15 percent in September compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 371 thousand 826. Gazipaşa Alanya Airport international passenger traffic increased by 65 percent in September compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 98 thousand 539.

Antalya Airport international passenger traffic was recorded as 3 million 665 thousand 837 in September with an increase of 24 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Muğla Milas-Bodrum Airport international passenger traffic increased by 58 percent to 261 thousand 543 in September compared to the same month of 2017, while Dalaman Airport international passenger traffic increased by 22 percent to 493 thousand 668.

According to the end-September figures, total aircraft traffic (including overflights) served in 9 months increased by 6.7 percent to 1 million 551 thousand 749, total passenger traffic (including direct transit) increased by 11.4 percent to 163 million 987 thousand 652, and cargo (cargo-mail-baggage) traffic increased by 10.2 percent to 2 million 909 thousand 660 tons.
