In the early general election in England, the ruling Conservative Party secured a sole government by winning 360 seats in 642 constituencies where the counting was completed. Johnson has gained a powerful new mandate to deliver Brexit.

As of 06.30 local time, vote counting was completed in 644 of 650 electoral districts. The Conservative Party, led by Boris Johnson, has reached 360 MPs, 34 MPs above the 326 MPs required for the government alone.

CORBYN SUFFERED A HEAVY DEFEAT

The main opposition Labor Party has been able to elect only 203 MPs so far, falling behind the 262 MPs it won in the last election. Main opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, although he has not yet officially resigned, has announced that he will not lead his party in another election campaign.

THE LIBERAL LEADER COULD NOT EVEN BE ELECTED AS A DEPUTY

According to the election results, the Liberal Democratic Party received one of the heaviest blows. The party’s leader, Jo Swinson, failed to be elected as an MP in her constituency in Scotland. The Liberal Democrats have won only 11 MPs so far.

ANOTHER WINNER OF THE ELECTION IS THE SCOTLAND NATIONAL PARTY

One of the parties that profited from the election was the Scottish National Party. The party increased its number of deputies to 48, exceeding the 35 deputies it had in the last election.

Vote counting continues in 6 electoral regions in the country.

VICTORY SPEECH FROM BORIS JOHNSON

Speaking about the election results, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, “At this stage, it appears that this one-nation Conservative Party government has been given a powerful new mandate not only to deliver Brexit, but also to unite and move this country forward.”

Johnson stated that the result indicates that it will be a historic election that gives the chance to respect the democratic will of the British people, change the country for the better and unlock the potential of all people.

On the other hand, Johnson was re-elected to the House of Commons with a margin of 7,210 votes, for a total of 25,251 votes, increasing his vote share in the West London constituency by 1.8 points.

According to exit polls, the Conservative Party led by Johnson finished the election in first place with 368 seats. Thus, the Conservatives passed the absolute majority of 326 and came to power alone again after 2 years.

The Labor Party, led by Jeremy Corbyn, Johnson’s biggest rival, came second with 191 seats. Thus, the Labor Party suffered one of the worst defeats in its history, losing 71 of the 262 seats it won in 2017.BREXIT IS FINAL.

According to this result, Johnson will be able to pass the Brexit agreement he reached with the EU in the 650-member House of Commons without the need for the support of another party, and the UK will leave the EU on January 31, 2020.

Johnson said that if he came to power alone, his first job would be to bring the Brexit agreement to parliament.

In the early elections held in 2017, the Conservatives won 317 seats, the Labor Party 262, the Scottish National Party 35 and the Liberal Democrat Party 8 seats.

The Conservative Party, which lost power alone, formed a minority government with the support of Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party.

However, as a result of this situation, former Prime Minister Theresa May failed to pass the Brexit agreement she reached with the EU in the House of Commons.

Johnson, who became Prime Minister after May’s resignation, wanted an early general election to be held on December 12 to resolve the Brexit knot.
