Chain supermarkets are required to have paper, cloth bags and nets.

The plastic bag fee is fixed at 25 ccent. Chain markets and stores are required to have reusable carrying equipment near the cash registers.

With the regulation signed by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, chain markets and chain stores will now have to carry paper, net or cloth bags and similar alternative reusable carrying equipment in addition to plastic bags.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, an update has been made to the “Procedures and Principles Regarding the Pricing of Plastic Bags” published by the Ministry.

While the opinions of the “Plastic Bag Commission” meeting held with the participation of the relevant sector and its representatives were also taken into account, the following statements regarding plastic bag fees were included in the new regulation:

The base fee to be applied to plastic bags in 2022 is 25 cents per piece, including taxes. “Starting from January 1, 2022, until the end of 2022, the fee to be applied to all bags subject to sale is 25 penny per piece, including taxes, and no more or less fee can be applied.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, which set the plastic bag prices at 25 cents in 2019 and kept the price constant this year, also imposed new obligations on chain markets and chain stores.

With the article added to the “Procedures and Principles Regarding the Pricing of Plastic Bags” with the new year, chain markets and chain stores will now have to keep paper, net or cloth bags and similar alternative reusable carrying equipment in addition to plastic bags.

The equipment in question will be placed near the safes so that citizens can see and easily access them. Businesses will be obliged to provide these equipment to citizens who request them, either paid or free of charge.

The new article added to the Procedures and Principles Regarding the Pricing of Plastic Bags is as follows:

“Chain markets/stores keep plastic bags as well as paper and/or cloth, nets and similar alternative reusable carrying equipment in their cash registers, and provide the equipment free of charge or with a fee if requested by the customer.”

The new regulations made in the relevant procedures and principles were put into practice with the signature of Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
