According to the written statement made by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services, the 19-article guide published by the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) was presented to the attention of construction site workers and OHS professionals.
In the guide titled “Protect Against the New Type of Coronavirus in 19 Steps at Construction Sites”, it is stated that the employer should inform the employees about the measures taken at the workplace.
In the guide, it was stated that care should be taken to ensure cooperation and coordination in the measures to be taken at construction sites with more than one employer, and to ensure regular information exchange between employers.
The measures that employers should take into account are listed as follows in the guide:
“Existing emergency plans and risk assessments will be updated, and the action plan to be developed in case coronavirus is detected in employees will include what needs to be done.
Designated employees and their responsibilities will be determined. Coordinated work will be ensured.
Necessary measures will be planned to minimize the risk of employees.
The views of occupational health and safety professionals and employees will be taken into account in determining and implementing measures.
Large work teams will be divided into small units and the social distance rule will be applied.
A work plan will be created to ensure that activities can be carried out with the minimum number of employees.
Communication between employees will be kept to a minimum.
Endangering the lives of employees will be prevented by proper planning and appropriate measures.”
Employees’ temperature will be measured regularly
In the guideline, it was stated that the fever of the employees should be measured before entering work in the morning and before starting work at lunchtime, those with high fever should be directed to the workplace physician, and employees should be regularly informed about the measures to be taken.
The following statements were included in the guideline:
“Hygiene rules will be followed. Visitors will be banned from entering the construction site unless it is mandatory. Meetings will be held remotely by methods such as video conferencing. Employees will be ensured to use personal protective equipment in accordance with standards and work. Employees with coronavirus symptoms will be transported to the nearest health institution wearing a mask.”
In the guideline, which also mentioned the measures regarding cafeterias and resting areas in construction sites, the following points were pointed out:
“Measures should be taken to prevent social distancing violations in common areas. Employees should have access to disinfectant, soap and water. Regular ventilation should be provided. Hygiene rules should be observed in food needs. Measures should be taken in areas where materials are stored. Country-wide measures should not be violated.”
