Countdown for New Istanbul

The construction of projects that will make Istanbul the center of the world in every field continues unabated. Among these projects, Marmaray has been put into service, while work on the 3rd Airport, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Canal Istanbul, Galataport, Eurasia Tunnel and Golden Horn Marina continues unabated.

At the Third Airport, one of the largest construction sites in the world, more than 13 thousand personnel from 16 countries are working non-stop to complete the first phase by the beginning of 2018.

The construction of projects that will make Istanbul the center of the world in every field continues non-stop. While Marmaray, the 3rd Airport, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Canal Istanbul, Galataport, Eurasia Tunnel and Golden Horn Marina are being constructed at full speed. In Marmaray, which consists of four sub-projects, the construction of the railway Bosphorus tube crossing, tunnels and stations has been completed, while the Improvement of Gebze-Haydarpaşa, Sirkeci-Halkalı Suburban Lines, Construction and Mechanical Systems, Supply of New Railway Vehicles, Engineering and Consultancy Services will be completed in June 2018.

HALKALI-GEBZE 105 MINUTES

The length of the project is 76.3 kilometers, consisting of a suburban line from Gebze to Haydarpaşa, a submerged tube tunnel under the Bosphorus to Sarayburnu and above-ground suburban lines between Yedikule and Halkalı. Ibrahimaga-Ayrılık Çeşmesi Station, which is integrated with the Kadıköy-Kartal Metro Line, was built and put into service by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. With the project, 75 thousand passengers will be transported in 1 hour in one direction, the travel time between Gebze-Halkalı will be 105 minutes and a total of 440 vehicles will serve on the route. The total cost of the project was 10 billion 177 million 359 thousand Turkish Liras and 7 billion 278 million 246 thousand Turkish Liras was spent by the end of 2015.

Here are the mega projects in Istanbul, which ranks first in Turkey in terms of public investments:

150 MILLION PASSENGERS PER YEAR

10.2 billion Euros will be spent for the 3rd Airport, which is targeted to be completed in 2017. The first phase of the airport, which will serve 150 million passengers a year, will open on October 29, 2017. When finished, it will provide job opportunities for 120 thousand people.

NO MORE TANKER RISK IN THE STRAIT

The Canal Istanbul project will be 25 meters deep, 150 meters wide and will connect the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea. With the project, tanker traffic on the Bosphorus will be directed to Canal Istanbul and the risks of tankers carrying dangerous cargo every day will end.

NUMBER OF TOURISTS WILL INCREASE 6 TIMES

Within the scope of the Galataport project, the port in Salıpazarı will be designed for cruise ships and the region will be utilized for tourism. It is estimated that there will be a 5-6-fold increase in the number of cruise ship tourists once the project is completed.

TRANSIT TRAFFIC WILL DECREASE

Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge will ease the transit traffic load in Istanbul. Traffic in the city will be provided in an access-controlled, uninterrupted and safe manner. The bridge will be put into service this year.

140 YACHT CAPACITY PORT

The Haliç Marina and Complex project will include 2 marinas, each with a minimum capacity of 70 yachts, 2 5-star 400-room hotels, shops, offices and a congress center.
