A center has been established at Istanbul Airport to conduct coronavirus (Covid-19) tests for passengers arriving and departing from abroad for 110 lira. Samples will be examined in the laboratories in the terminal and the results will be delivered to the passenger within 2 hours.
Within the scope of the measures taken in the fight against coronavirus, a coronavirus test center was established at Istanbul Airport.
Thanks to the test center, which has been made ready for use, arriving and departing passengers will be able to have PCR tests in a total area of 5 thousand square meters at two separate points in the international terminal. At the center established at Istanbul Airport, swabs taken from the throat and nose of passengers will also be processed in the laboratory here and the results will be delivered to the passenger quickly.
Passengers will be notified of the results in 2 hours
The tests, which will be sent in Turkish and English via e-mail or can be printed out, will be available for passengers who will be traveling abroad and those who will enter Turkey from abroad.
Fatih Mere, Director of İGA Operation Control Center, told press members that the test center has a capacity of 40 thousand tests per day in a total area of 5 thousand square meters established at two separate points on the international flights.
Mere told reporters about the test center and stated that a test center was established at Istanbul Airport in line with the joint requests of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for passengers arriving from abroad or departing abroad who want to have a PCR test.
Mere noted the following:
“We have 50 sampling booths. The hourly capacity is 2 thousand. 38-40 thousand tests can be performed in 24 hours. There is no laboratory established at any airport in Turkey. Samples will not be sent to any hospital for the testing of passengers who swab, but will be finalized in the laboratories established here. This will save us a lot of time. The area we are in is 4 thousand square meters. In addition, an area of one thousand square meters has been set up on the land side of the terminal (the area where ticket and baggage procedures are carried out). We will provide this service in a total area of 5 thousand square meters. Our preparations have been completed so that we can test both incoming and outgoing passengers.”
Test fee 110 lira
Fatih Mere stated that the fee for PCR tests will be 110 liras in line with the Ministry of Health and said, “We do not expect any income from here. It is a service we offer so that passengers can have their tests done as soon as possible and continue their flights without stress. In the first stage, we had 520 of our staff tested here before the passengers arrived. All of them were negative. We have seen in those tests that the results of this test will fall into the system in about 2 hours and can be delivered to the passengers.”
