Dollar/TL is at 6.97 levels, sharp rise in oil

Global markets started the day optimistically, with the impact of the Fed’s interest rate decision, positive news about the coronavirus outbreak and positive company balance sheets from the USA. After US stock markets closed with a 3 percent increase yesterday, US futures are also up around 1 percent this morning. The optimistic atmosphere is also accompanied by Asian stock markets. While green screens stand out in all Asian stock markets, the nearly 3 percent rise in Japan is noteworthy.

Stock market is positive, dollar is at 6.97 levels

Accompanying the optimism in global markets, Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index rose by 0.46 percent to 102,065.96 points at the opening.

The dollar/TL exchange rate, which dropped from 6.99-6.98 levels to 6.95 after the markets closed yesterday, turned upwards as the markets opened. At 10:10, dollar/TL is at 6.9740; euro/TL is at 7.5920.

All eyes on ECB interest rate decision and CBRT’s Inflation Report

Markets are expecting a busy agenda on the day when US futures and Asian stock markets are positive. The most important agenda item in the markets today will be the interest rate decision of the European Central Bank. Additionally, unemployment benefit applications and company balance sheets from the USA will be monitored soon. Domestically, the Central Bank’s Inflation Report will be announced. CBRT President Murat Uysal will make a virtual presentation about the ‘Inflation Report’. In its last inflation report, the CBRT announced this year-end consumer prices forecast as 8.2 percent and next year’s end forecast as 5.4 percent.

Oil prices continue to rise

The rise in oil prices, which started yesterday, continues today. Signs that fuel demand has begun to recover in the USA and data that oil production has begun to decrease brought a rapid recovery in prices in international markets.

Brent oil is valued above 24 dollars with an increase of around 10 percent. US crude oil, which was the main actor of the sharp declines last week, rose by 14 percent to 17 dollars.
