Stating that people are eager to take a vacation with the confidence given by the vaccine, TÜROFED Vice President Mehmet İşler said, “Russia has announced that it has not imposed a ban on flights to Turkey. We expect a serious rise in the UK market in mid-May. After that, we anticipate that the demand in Europe will continue. There are very serious increases especially in bookings from Europe.”
Mehmet İşler, Vice President of the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TÜROFED), said that 2020 was a good year despite the pandemic, although they did not reach the expected number of tourists, and stated that the sector survived the COVID-19 process with timely steps and support. Pointing out that Turkey managed the pandemic process very well compared to Spain and Greece, İşler emphasized that this advantage will continue this year.
According to reports published in a tourism and travel magazine in Spain, Turkey is the leader of travel bookings in the German market with a share of about 24 percent, said İşler, “There is a serious demand for Turkey. The biggest reason for this is our good management of the coronavirus process and the Safe Tourism Certificate. Early bookings from Europe for the new season made the tourism sector, which could not find what it expected in 2020 due to the pandemic, smile.”
Stating that the vaccination has given people confidence and that it is now better understood how to fight the virus, İşler said that it is obvious that more tourists will come this year. Stating that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Tourism Development Agency are making intensive efforts, İşler said: “Many people in Europe have stayed indoors. Now they want to see the sun. With the confidence given by the vaccine, people are eager to take a vacation. Russia has announced that it has not imposed a ban on flights to Turkey. In the middle of May, we expect a serious rise in the UK market. After that, we anticipate that the demand in Europe will continue. There are very serious increases in bookings especially from Europe.”
Stating that they want to reach 30 million tourists at the end of the year, İşler said that the sector is smiling with the positive news coming day by day. Stating that as the sector, they continue their preparations for the new season without slowing down, İşler said, “This year will be much better than 2020. We think the bad days are behind us.”
