The final of the 7th Carpet Design Competition, organized annually by IHIB, took place on November 7, 2013, under the Domotex umbrella at the Istanbul Fair Center.
Tim Deputy Chairman Mustafa Çıkrıkçıoğlu, LASİAD Board Member Münir Dinler, and numerous representatives of civil society organizations attended the final night.
Eight finalist designers competed at the awards ceremony. The top three finalists were awarded cash prizes and MacBook Pros. Additionally, the 8 young designers who participated in the final had the opportunity to visit two of the industry’s most important fairs in Germany: Heimtextil Frankfurt and Domotex Carpet and Floor Coverings Fair. Moreover, the finalists earned the right to attend a 6-month foreign language course in 2014. Seyit Ali Dönmez, recognized for the most innovative design, received the innovation award. The finalist deserving of the innovation award will be taken to Maison&Objet, one of France’s leading design fairs. The 3rd place in the competition went to Uğur Özdemir with the theme “Pure Texture,” the 2nd place to Miray Çakır with the theme “Mold,” and the 1st place to Lokman Gençtürk with the theme “Cell.”
IHIB President İbrahim Yılmaz commented on the competition: “The most important aspect of the 7th Carpet Design Competition, organized for the 7th time this year, is to discover designers who will represent our country on the world stage. As IHIB, we have set a target of ’10 designers in 10 years’ by entering into a triple collaboration with universities and the industry. Design makes a difference in this field worldwide. While directing our young people to design, we focus once again on making Turkey the center of carpets.”
