Face-to-face education starts in kindergarten and 1st grade

The Ministry of National Education (MoNE) started face-to-face education in schools with diluted applications, one day a week in kindergarten and primary school 1st grades.

Schools, which have been closed since March due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, opened their doors for kindergarten and primary school 1st graders within the framework of the measures taken.

The new academic year was launched on August 31 through distance education using TRT EBA, EBA and live lessons. The adaptation program, which will be held on September 21-25, the first week of school, will take the form of “one day of face-to-face education” in pre-school education institutions and primary school 1st grades.

Students will not be required to participate in face-to-face education, and parents will be able to ensure their students’ attendance to distance education at their own request without making a written application.

The adaptation program, which the school administrations will decide together with the teachers on which day it will take place during the week of September 21-25, will be planned over 1 day with 5 activity hours of 30 minutes each in pre-school education institutions, and over 1 day with 5 lesson hours of 30 minutes each and 10 minute breaks in between in primary school 1st grades.

Depending on the opportunities and conditions, the class size will be divided into two separate groups in accordance with the social distancing rules and each group will have their school adaptation program on different days.

Necessary guidance will be provided for students to comply with social distancing during recess hours.

The week following the orientation week, September 28-October 2, and thereafter, face-to-face education will be held 2 days a week for 5 class hours of 30 minutes each. There will be a 10-minute rest period between class hours.

School administrations will make the necessary plans, including guard duty, to maintain the social distance between students during recess hours.

No visitors allowed in schools

During this period, visitors will not be admitted to schools unless it is mandatory, and in mandatory cases, the visitor will be recorded and admitted in line with the measures.

Children will be informed about healthy living in the activities of the adaptation program for pre-school and primary school 1st graders. In addition to activities such as hygiene, social distancing, getting rid of fears and anxieties, activities will be organized for students to get to know the school and staff.

The activities, prepared with the motto “No Education Without Health”, will include issues and expectations that all stakeholders related to education must comply with.

Sample titles that will guide the original work of teachers are “Children’s Meeting Activity, Healthy Living Activities (Complying with Hygiene Rules), Activity for Complying with Social Distancing Rules (In Class) Families’ Meeting Activity, Getting Rid of Fear and Anxiety Activity for Introducing Learning Centers / School Departments, Classroom Rules Introduction Activity, Healthy Living Activity (Complying with Nutrition Rules), Social Distancing Activity (Out of School), Getting to Know the School and its Staff, Healthy Living Activity (After School Nutrition and Hygiene)”.

They start school with contactless games

The Ministry prepared the “Non-Contact Games Book” to help preschool and first grade students internalize masks, social distancing and personal hygiene conditions more easily and adapt to the new normal in a fun way. The books were delivered to teachers to be implemented in all schools as of September 21.

Each of the 60 games in the book, which do not involve any physical contact, is designed to help children develop “acquaintance, communication, attention, movement and cooperation”.

After the orientation week, they will go to school two days a week

In the week following the adaptation week, September 28-October 2, Turkish lessons will be taught face-to-face for 6 class hours, 2 days a week for 3 class hours each, mathematics 2 days a week for 2 class hours each, life science 2 days a week for 1 class hour each, and life science 2 days a week for 1 class hour each.

The other lessons in the 1st grade program will be implemented through distance education systems with EBA TV and EBA portal live classroom applications.

Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk announced that live classes can be held at any time from 08.30 in the morning until 20.20 in the evening.

Schools ready for face-to-face education

Due to the start of face-to-face education, all necessary disinfection work has been completed in schools across the country, and hygiene and disinfectant needs have been met by provincial directorates.

All schools have been provided with thermometers to be used in case of need. Free masks will be provided to all students within three weeks. In 81 provinces, the masks needed were produced in vocational education institutions and public education centers and delivered to schools.

Planning for the transportation of students to schools was completed. In addition, trainings for bus drivers in all provinces covering the precautions they should follow in student transportation were completed and necessary information was provided.

Warning mechanism ready

Within the scope of Covid-19 measures, an integration system and warning mechanism between the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Health was also prepared. Thanks to the system, instant notifications will be made to educational institution administrators in case of a possible risk to students, teachers, all employees in educational institutions and school bus drivers.

School administrators will take immediate action after receiving the notification, implement the procedures in the Ministry of Health guidelines and take the necessary measures. In case of a possible risk, the system will notify other students in the student’s class and even other students traveling together in the school bus, and will ensure that measures are taken.
