Regarding the death of black American George Floyd as a result of police violence in the USA, Çavuşoğlu said, “It is unacceptable for the police to kill any person in this way, regardless of their race, religion or belief.” he said.
Çavuşoğlu stated that the racism that exists in the USA continues and said, “Therefore, justice must be served regarding the police officer who committed this murder in a way that will ease everyone’s conscience.” said.
On the other hand, Çavuşoğlu emphasized that it is not right and very dangerous for this murder to turn into vandalism and said, “No matter who it is, we will not support or find it right if it turns into vandalism in this way, not only in the USA but also in any other country. “Haftar is still not interested in a political solution”
In his assessment of the latest developments in Libya, Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Khalifa Haftar, the leader of the illegitimate armed forces in the east of the country, is still not willing to reach a political solution and noted that countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and France support Haftar.
Underlining that Haftar has increased his aggression recently, Çavuşoğlu stated that the government of Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarrac, seeing this, started to repel the Haftar side with a counter-attack and captured important places.
Çavuşoğlu said, “The capture of the coastline from Tripoli to Tunisia, the capture of international airports, and the progress made by air and land essentially show that Haftar cannot win this war.” he said.
“If you want to cooperate in the Eastern Mediterranean, come to us”
Regarding the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined that Turkey’s aim here is to cooperate with everyone and said, “As for the Greek Cypriot side, it needs to reach an agreement with the TRNC regarding the equitable sharing of the riches around Cyprus.” he said.
Çavuşoğlu continued his words as follows:
“We cooperate with everyone in the Eastern Mediterranean, but until now, other countries in the region such as Greece, Egypt and Israel have attempted to cooperate among themselves by excluding us. We were telling them that no agreement without Turkey is valid, and Turkey “No cooperation without it will bring results. We have shown this with the steps we have taken. There is no room for fait accompli. If you want to cooperate in the Eastern Mediterranean, come to us.”
“Shall we ask someone else where to read the Quran?”
Minister Çavuşoğlu, regarding Greece’s reaction to the reading of Surah Al-Fath in Hagia Sophia within the scope of the events commemorating the 567th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, said, “Are we going to ask someone else where the call to prayer or the Holy Quran will be recited in the Republic of Turkey? ?” he said.
Emphasizing that Greece is the last country that can advise Turkey on this issue, Çavuşoğlu underlined that Athens is the only capital in Europe without a mosque.
