Foreign trade indices have been announced

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the foreign trade indices for February.

Accordingly, the export unit value index decreased by 1.4 percent in February compared to the same month of the previous year. In this period, the index increased by 2.4 percent in food, beverages and tobacco and 0.5 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), while it decreased by 8.6 percent in fuels and 2 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Import unit value index decreased by 6.1 percent on an annual basis in February. Compared to the same month last year, the index decreased by 2.8 percent in food, beverages and tobacco, by 4 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 13.5 percent in fuels and by 5.5 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Export quantity index increased by 4.1 percent

The export quantity index increased by 4.1 percent on an annual basis in February compared to the same month of the previous year. While the index increased by 2.5 percent in food, beverages and tobacco and by 5.5 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco), it decreased by 2.7 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel) and 21.6 percent in fuels.

Import quantity index also increased by 15.3 percent on an annual basis in February. During this period, the index recorded an increase of 19.6 percent in food, beverages and tobacco, 51.9 percent in raw materials (excluding fuel), 1.5 percent in fuels and 11.5 percent in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Data adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the export quantity index, which was 171.4 in January, decreased by 5.1 percent and became 162.6 in February. According to the series adjusted for calendar effects, the export quantity index, which was 153.2 in February 2019, increased by 0.5 and was calculated as 153.9 in February this year.

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the import quantity index, which was 141.4 in January, decreased by 2.2 percent to 138.2 in February. According to the series adjusted for calendar effects, the import quantity index, which was 114.4 in February last year, reached 128.5 in February this year, with an increase of 15.4 percent.

The terms of foreign trade, which is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and was obtained as 101.7 in February 2019, was recorded as 106.8 in February 2020, with an increase of 5.1 points.
