Turkish Statistical Institute announced the housing sales statistics for April.
Accordingly, the number of houses sold across the country in April decreased by 60.6 percent compared to the previous month and by 55.5 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 42 thousand 783.
In housing sales, Istanbul ranked first (14.3 percent) with 6 thousand 113 houses. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 4,500 house sales and a 10.5 percent share, and Izmir with 2,533 house sales and 5.9 percent share. The provinces with the least sales were recorded as Hakkari with 6 houses, Ardahan with 7 houses and Bayburt with 20 houses.
Mortgage house sales
During this period, mortgaged house sales decreased by 23.9 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 17 thousand 88. The share of mortgage sales in total housing sales was determined as 39.9 percent. In mortgage sales, Istanbul ranked first with 2,451 house sales and a share of 14.3 percent. The province with the lowest number of mortgaged house sales was determined as Hakkari with 2 houses.
Other housing sales decreased by 65.1 percent on an annual basis in April, reaching 25 thousand 695. In this category, Istanbul ranked first with 3 thousand 662 house sales and a share of 14.3 percent.
The share of other sales in total housing sales in Istanbul was recorded as 59.9 percent. While Ankara ranked second with 2 thousand 286 other house sales, Izmir followed this city with 1372 house sales. The province with the lowest number of other house sales was Hakkari with 4 houses.
14 thousand 848 houses were sold for the first time
The number of houses sold for the first time decreased by 60.7 percent in April compared to the same month last year, reaching 14 thousand 848. The share of the first sale in total housing sales was 34.7 percent. Istanbul had the highest share in the first sales with 2 thousand 22 houses. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 1166 house sales and Izmir with 854 house sales.
Second-hand house sales decreased by 52.1 percent in April compared to the same month last year, falling to 27 thousand 935.
Istanbul ranked first in this field with 4 thousand 91 house sales and a share of 14.6 percent. The share of second-hand sales in total housing sales in Istanbul was 66.9 percent. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 3 thousand 334 and Izmir with 1679 house sales.
790 houses were sold to foreigners
Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 78.8 percent in April compared to the same month last year, reaching 790. In this field, Istanbul ranked first with 374 house sales, followed by Antalya with 150 house sales, Ankara with 47 house sales, Izmir with 30 house sales and Yalova with 25 house sales.
In April, Iranian citizens bought 157 houses from Turkey, Iraqi citizens 103, Russian citizens 61, Afghanistan citizens 54 and Chinese citizens 40.
Housing sales increased by 8.9 percent in the January-April period
The number of housing sales increased by 8.9 percent in the January-April period compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 383 thousand 821. During this period, mortgaged house sales increased by 141.4 percent, reaching 146 thousand 387. Other sales types were recorded as 237 thousand 434, with a decrease of 18.6 percent.
In the same period, the number of houses sold for the first time decreased by 16 percent to 122 thousand 280. Second-hand house sales were calculated as 261 thousand 541, with an increase of 26.4 percent.
