According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, considering the 12-month averages as of April, consumer prices increased by 12.66 percent and domestic producer prices increased by 10.87 percent.
On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.85 percent and the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 1.28 percent.
CPI increased by 3.16 percent in April compared to December last year and by 10.94 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
PPI increased by 4.54 percent compared to December 2019 and 6.71 percent compared to April last year.
12.86 percent increase in gas production and distribution
In April, on an annual basis, D-PPI increased by 7.44 percent in the mining and quarrying sector, 6.27 percent in manufacturing, 12.86 percent in electricity and gas production and distribution, and 4.57 percent in water supply.
D-PPI increased by 1.28 percent in April compared to the previous month, 4.54 percent compared to December of the previous year, 6.71 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and 10.87 percent compared to 12-month averages.
Considering the annual changes in the four sectors of the industry in April, there was an increase of 7.44 percent in mining and quarrying, 6.27 percent in manufacturing, 12.86 percent in electricity and gas production and distribution, and 4.57 percent in water supply. When we look at the monthly changes of these groups, a 0.22 percent increase was recorded in mining and quarrying, a 1.41 percent increase in manufacturing, a 0.31 percent increase in electricity and gas production and distribution, and a 0.53 percent decrease in water supply.
Looking at the annual changes of the main industrial groups, there was an increase of 7.52 percent in intermediate goods, 10.4 percent in durable consumer goods, 11.02 percent in non-durable consumer goods, 11.16 percent in capital goods, and 11.25 percent in energy.
The monthly changes of these groups were 3 percent increase in intermediate goods, 2.4 percent in durable consumer goods, 1.18 percent in non-durable consumer goods, 2.91 percent increase in capital goods, and 7.97 percent decrease in energy.
The highest decrease on an annual basis was in the coke and refined petroleum products sectors with 50.51 percent, and in the crude oil and natural gas sectors with 39.2 percent. On the other hand, tobacco products, metal ores, 23.2 percent and other manufactured goods, 18.67 percent, were the sub-sectors where the indices increased the most.
The highest monthly decrease was observed in coke and refined petroleum products with 28.46 percent, followed by crude oil and natural gas with 27.71 percent and the collection, purification and distribution of water with 0.53 percent. Metal ores with 8.03 percent, paper and paper products with 6.71 percent, and other manufactured goods with 5.28 percent were recorded as the sub-sectors where the indices increased the most.
Price changes in main spending groups
According to Turkish Statistical Institute data, price changes in the main expenditure groups in April have been announced.
The highest monthly increase in this category in April was in various goods and services with 4.66 percent, followed by clothing and shoes with 4.08 percent, and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 2.53 percent.
Among the main expenditure groups, the group that showed the biggest decrease in April was recorded as transportation with 1.83 percent. This group was followed by communications with 1.23 percent, entertainment and culture with 0.67 percent and housing with 0.32 percent.
Annual changes
The highest annual increase in CPI was seen in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco main expenditure group with 31.32 percent. This was followed by various goods and services with 20.34 percent and housing with 14.52 percent. During this period, there was an increase of 12.86 percent in health, 12.55 percent in restaurants and hotels, and 12.35 percent in education.
The main expenditure groups where the increase was lower compared to the same month last year were communications with 1.55 percent, clothing and shoes with 4.90 percent, entertainment and culture with 4.91 percent and transportation with 5.54 percent.
While there was no change in the average prices of 61 of the 418 items included in the index last month, there was a decrease in the average prices of 87 and an increase in the average prices of 270.
Prices increased by 10.94 percent across the country
According to TUIK data, prices increased by 10.94 percent across the country on an annual basis in April.
Among the 26 regions at the 2nd level of Statistical Regional Unit Classification (NUTS), the highest increase on a monthly basis was in “Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt” with 1.72 percent. According to the 12-month averages, the highest increase occurred in this region with 14.22 percent.
The highest increase on an annual basis was observed in the said region with 12.98 percent, followed by “Kırıkkale, Aksaray, Niğde, Nevşehir, Kırşehir” with 12.28 percent and “Balıkesir, Çanakkale” regions with 12.24 percent.
The lowest price increase occurred in the “Kastamonu, Çankırı, Sinop” region with 8.47 percent.
