Invitation for Investment from the Abkhazian Government to LASİAD

On May 14, 2015, Beslan T. Butba, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia and the State Minister responsible for investments, visited LASİAD (Laleli Industrialists and Businessmen Association). The visit aimed to enhance the friendly relations between Abkhazia and Laleli and took place at 12:00 at the Laleli Industrialists and Businessmen Association. Beslan T. Butba, accompanied by Abkhazia’s Representative in Istanbul Inar Gitsba and Ahmet Ceylan, the General Manager of Akva Companies, was welcomed by LASİAD President Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca and Vice Presidents İsmail Dark, Ercan Hardal, Mehmet Ocaklı, Ahmet Turan, Erdem Soylu Karabağlı, and the secretariat. Expressing his pleasure at hosting them, Eyyüpkoca stated, “We are delighted to have you here. Turkey has always been a country open to new relationships. Therefore, we are very pleased to establish friendship with you and develop new business branches together.” He emphasized Turkey’s hospitality towards Abkhazia, their neighboring country. Butba, expressing his interest in conducting mutual trade in various fields with the Laleli region, visited Laleli for this purpose. He declared his full support for the commercial agreements Abkhazia would make with Turkey, being a small country still in the developmental stage, faced with intense embargoes due to wars in the region.

“I am very thankful for your warm reception. I had various thoughts about Laleli, but after getting to know you here, I started thinking even bigger about this region. Abkhazia is a very rich country in many aspects. However, due to the intense embargoes applied after the wars in our region, Abkhazia has not been able to develop commercially. My duty is to strengthen our friendly ties with countries and companies that can invest in Abkhazia. This way, we will enable Abkhazia to create and improve its own economy. I have been making intensive visits to Asia recently because I know that we are not yet in a position to establish commercial relations with Europe. Abkhazia is a country rich in every aspect, with university-educated workers, total workforce capacity, cheap electricity, hotels, accommodations, and tourism. When investments are made, this richness can be distributed in every direction. What we want is for everyone to benefit equally from the investments made. In this visit to Turkey, where we aim to establish new commercial relationships with not only the textile sector but also many other different sectors, we saw that the Laleli region is an important and large area that harbors many different sectors within itself. We are working on analyzing your businesses in Abkhazia and developing new projects. I hope that through valuable and successful institutions like LASİAD, the Laleli region will open up to Abkhazia, thus establishing solid friendship ties between the two countries.”

After the meeting, LASİAD President Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca presented a plaque with the symbol of LASİAD, a tulip figure, to Beslan T. Butba, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia, as a token of appreciation for his visit and to further strengthen the ties between LASİAD and Abkhazia.
