The eighth season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul will take place at Zorlu Performing Arts Center between October 11-15, 2016.
As the title sponsor of the world’s leading fashion weeks such as Berlin, Sydney, Tokyo and Miami, Mercedes-Benz, as in all the fashion weeks that it is the title sponsor of, selects a designer from the first season and presents the fashion show of the selected designer in Istanbul.
As part of this long-term project, Mercedes-Benz Türk presented the “Toz” collection of Bahar Korçan, one of the doyen names of the Turkish fashion industry, to the guests of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul. The “Mercedes-Benz celebrates Bahar Korçan” presentation, which celebrates the inspiring story of Bahar Korçan, who opened the first fashion design office in Turkey, pioneered the establishment of the Fashion Designers Association and laid the foundations of the fashion week that continues today as an international event with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, and continues to be an opinion leader by pioneering the correct perception of fashion design and the formation of fashion culture in Turkey, was held on Tuesday, October 11 at 20:30 at Zorlu PSM. Following the presentation, the collection will be open to guests throughout the week as an exhibition concept.
Bahar Korçan shares her thoughts on this collaboration: “Fashion is a very beautiful form of expression… When Helemoda design and Istanbul come together, this form of expression has a much wider spectrum… It is very important to look at the world from this geography and to introduce our work to the world. Istanbul Fashion Week was my biggest dream when I was young and started this business. Now I am really proud to continue this dream under the roof of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul and to be a part of this organization with the support of Mercedes-Benz Türk.”

This season, we are very excited to honor Bahar Korçan and present the “Mercedes-Benz celebrates Bahar Korçan” exhibition, who has been behind every initiative that can be described as a milestone in the development of the Turkish fashion industry, who has made great efforts for Istanbul to have a fashion week and who has built the perception of fashion design in Turkey.”
In her collection titled “Dust”, Bahar Korçan sets out from the idea that human beings are created from dust and will turn into dust, and crowns the idea that every detail in the universe serves a great whole and that the only power that connects people is love with a collection exhibition where different disciplines come together.
The collection, created by designer Bahar Korçan based on a poem she wrote herself, consists of hand-dyed silks, patterns reflecting the paintings and timeless dresses bearing Bahar Korçan’s style.A product of 3 years of work, the collection combines painting, sculpture and fashion in an inspiring synthesis.
In 1992, Bahar Korçan made a name for herself by winning the competition organized by ITKIB with her collection named “Naturel” and worked with Vitali Hakko at Vakko for many years. In 1999, she received the Best Designer award at Istanbul Fashion Days. In addition to undertaking costume designs for the Modern Dance Troupe and the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, she has dressed famous names including Tarkan and Sezen Aksu. Bahar Korçan, one of the founders of the Fashion Designers Association and one of the founders of Istanbul Fashion Week, also writes stories and poems and creates timeless pieces with simplicity at the forefront of her designs.
