Istanbul industry is on the rise again!

Istanbul’s industry, which has been steadily losing ground in the league of giants of Turkish industry for the last 10 years, is on the rise again. According to 2010 data, 215 companies from Istanbul were included in the “Turkey’s Top 500 Industrial Enterprises” list. Even in 2007, this figure was 227 companies. One by one, companies from Anatolian cities were included in the list instead of the Istanbul companies that lost blood every year. According to the previously announced 2018 data, Istanbul was represented in the list with 166 companies, recording the lowest number in its history. This meant that one out of every 4 Istanbul companies said goodbye to the list compared to 2010. This year, the needle has turned upwards again, albeit slightly. According to 2019 data, 169 companies from Istanbul were included in the list.

Turkey’s 50 cities make up the league of giants

On the other hand, 31 of Turkey’s 81 cities could not represent themselves in the list. However, the 2019 data, which includes companies from 50 cities, points to the best representation rate of the last 10 years. According to 2010 data, half of Turkey’s cities could not find a place in high school. According to 2019 data, 18 of these 50 cities are represented in the list with only one company. 8 companies from the public sector were also included in the list.

Cement companies that downgrade cities

Three cities, which were represented by a single company, had their names removed from the list due to companies falling out of the top 500. These cities are Burdur, Isparta and Malatya. As Çimento, registered in the Bucak district of Burdur, was ranked 343rd according to 2017 data. In 2018, the company dropped to 398th place. This year, it left the list. Also from Isparta, Göltaş Göller Bölgesi Çimento San. ve Tic. AŞ had entered the list from 475th place according to the previous data. While the company fell from the list this year, Isparta thus left the first league of the industry. According to 2018 data, Baykanlar Tekstil from Malatya entered the ISO 500 in 389th place and made the city smile. The company said goodbye to the list this year.

4 cities added to the list

The cities included in the list this year due to the success of their companies were Afyon, Düzce, Giresun and Kastamonu. Erciyas Çelik Boru Sanayi AŞ from Düzce ranked 359th, Oruçoğlu Yağ from Afyon ranked 429th and Yavuz Gıda from Giresun ranked 394th. This year, Eti Bakır also put Kastamonu on the list. It is stated that Eti Bakır, which continues its activities based in İnebolu, was also on the list in previous years but did not disclose its name.
