The Regulation on Passenger, Baggage, Cargo and Mail Liability Insurance for Aircraft Operating in Turkey was amended.
The guarantees regarding the insurance that carriers authorized for the carriage of passengers, cargo and mail for aircraft and carriers authorized from another country must take out against damages to passengers, baggage, cargo and mail that may arise from carriage contracts have been amended.
According to the information in the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance increased the guarantees in Article 8 of the relevant regulation.
Accordingly, the minimum insurance coverage per passenger for flights with non-commercial aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of less than 2,700 kg was increased from SDR 113,100 (895 thousand liras) to SDR 128,821 (1 million 20 thousand liras), and the minimum insurance liability of the carrier due to delay in passenger transportation was increased from SDR 4,694 (37 thousand 176 liras) to SDR 5,346 (42 thousand 340 liras) per passenger.
For the risks of loss, damage and delay in commercial flights under subparagraph C of the same regulation, it was decided to increase the minimum insurance liability for baggage from SDR 1,131 (8,957 liras) to SDR 1,288 (10,200 liras) per passenger, and the minimum insurance liability for cargo and mail from SDR 19 (150 liras) to SDR 22 (174 liras) per kilogram.
The amendment to the regulation published in the Official Gazette will enter into force as of 28/12/2019.

Special drawing rights are an international reserve currency created by the International Monetary Fund in 1969 and issued by a separate department of the same name. It is a special international reserve instrument created by the IMF to increase international liquidity. As of today, 1 SDR is equivalent to 7.92 Turkish Lira.
