According to the provisional election results in the USA, former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic Party candidate, won 253 electoral delegates, and Republican Party candidate President Donald Trump won 214 electoral delegates.
Even though a day has passed since the presidential elections in the USA, the question of which candidate will win remains unclear.
According to the provisional results in the states where vote counting has been completed, former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic Party candidate, has won 253 electoral delegates, and Republican Party candidate President Donald Trump has won 214 electoral delegates.
The candidate who wins the majority of votes in any state wins all of the electoral delegates he/she has depending on the population size of that state; A candidate must reach a total of 270 electoral delegates to win the presidential race.
The election results are still not clear in the states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and Alaska, which represent a total of 71 electoral delegates.
The continuation of the neck-and-neck race in the key states that are expected to determine the fate of the election makes it impossible to declare a clear winner yet.
Number of delegates won by candidates
The person who reaches 270 delegates, which is more than half of the 538 delegates in the US presidential elections, wins the presidential election.
US Election Results by State
Democrats appear to have taken back Michigan and Wisconsin
Provisional results show Democratic Party candidate Biden won Michigan and Wisconsin, states that played a key role in Trump’s election victory in 2016.
In Wisconsin, where all the votes were counted last night, Biden got 1 million 630 thousand 389 votes, while Trump got 1 million 609 thousand 879 votes. Democrats declared victory in the state with 10 electoral delegates.
In the state of Michigan, where 99 percent of the votes were counted, Biden seems to have won 2 million 769 thousand 197 votes and Trump 2 million 634 thousand 573 votes. The difference of 134 thousand 624 votes will most likely give the Democrats the state’s 16 electoral delegates.
The gap in Pennsylvania closes against Republicans
In the state of Pennsylvania, which has 20 electoral delegates where the Republicans are leading, the vote difference, which was up to 500 thousand, decreased to 64 thousand 614.
In the state where 91 percent of the votes were counted, Trump won 3 million 215 thousand 969 votes and Biden won 3 million 51 thousand 355 votes.
Considering that there are more than 1 million votes still waiting to be counted in the state, it is not improbable that the election outcome will swing in favor of Democrats.
Republicans ahead in North Carolina, Georgia and Alaska
Republicans are leading the states of North Carolina and Georgia, where almost all the votes have been counted, with small vote margins.
15 electoral delegates were won in North Carolina, where Trump won 2 million 732 thousand 120 votes and Biden won 2 million 655 thousand 383 votes; and in Georgia, where Trump won 2 million 429 thousand 783 votes and Biden won 2 million 406 thousand 774 votes. It looks like the 16 electoral delegates will go to the Republicans.
In the state of Alaska, where 47 percent of the votes have been counted and 3 electoral delegates, Republicans are ahead by a wide margin. Against Trump’s 108 thousand 231 votes, Biden was able to win 56 thousand 849 votes.
Democrats ahead in Arizona and Nevada
In the Midwestern states of Nevada and Arizona, where the election result is still unclear, Democrats seem close to winning.
In Arizona, where 84 percent of the votes have been counted and which has 11 electoral delegates, Biden has won 1 million 444 thousand 313 votes and Trump has won 1 million 365 thousand 40 votes. The vote difference is 79 thousand 273.
In Nevada, where 86 percent of the votes have been counted and which has 6 electoral delegates, Biden has won 588 thousand 252 votes and Trump has won 580 thousand 605 votes. The difference in votes is 7 thousand 647.
Trump team will take the results to court
President Trump’s campaign team announced that they will take legal action to recount the votes in Wisconsin, where the Democrats’ victory was declared last night, and to stop the vote counting in Michigan, where the Democrats are leading, and Pennsylvania, where the gap between Republicans and Democrats is rapidly closing.
On the other hand, Republicans filed a lawsuit in Georgia, where vote counting continues, on the grounds that some votes cast after 19:00, when voting was completed on the election day in Chatham County, where the city of Savannah is the center, were included in the count.
Congressional race is also head-to-head
In the congressional elections held with the presidential election, the Democrats remained far from achieving their goal of gaining the majority in the Senate; It is in danger of losing its majority in the House of Representatives.
According to the provisional results of the election that will determine 35 members of the 100-seat Senate, Republicans have 48 seats in the Senate and Democrats have 46 seats.
Since there are still two independent senators leaning towards the Democratic Party in the Senate, it remains unclear who can provide the Senate majority.
The results of the elections held for one seat each in the states of North Carolina and Alaska and two seats in the state of Georgia have not yet been determined. While Republican candidates were leading the race by a narrow margin in North Carolina and Alaska; It looks like a Republican and a Democratic candidate will win in the state of Georgia.
If the Senate elections result like this, Republicans will reach 51 seats in the Senate and maintain the majority they have had for 6 years.
In the elections to the House of Representatives, the lower house of Congress, Democrats have 197 seats and Republicans have 186 seats. 52 members in the 435-seat parliament have not yet been determined. It is predicted that the majority in the parliament may change in favor of the Republicans.
