Fatih Mayor Turan stated that tradesmen, citizens and tourists are very pleased with the pedestrianization project of Laleli and its surroundings and said that they plan to implement the same practice around Gedikpaşa and Süleymaniye.
Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan made a statement to the press about the implementation of the Ordu Street and Surroundings Pedestrianization Project.
Stating that controlled traffic was created for registered trucks and vans loading goods for commercial purposes, commercial taxis and TÜRSAB vehicles with a stay of 20 or 30 minutes in and around Ordu Street between 10.00 and 21.00, Turan said, “This was a decision that would end the chaos here. It was a decision taken by UKOME in 2016, some revisions were made in 2020 and we have been implementing it for 10 days. What is missed all over the world right now is that pedestrians dominate the streets. This is not a residential area, but a commercial zone. Both those who come for trade purposes, citizens and “Both the tourists and the tradesmen are happy.” he said.
“This is not a small operation”
Stating that, as Fatih Municipality, they are responsible for the implementation of the project in every aspect, Turan gave the following information:
“There was a chaotic situation and chaos brought about by trade and tourism here. It was a decision to prevent this chaos. This decision was a decision that had been expected to be implemented for years. This is perhaps one of the important decisions taken in the last 5-10 years in the historical peninsula. Of course, infrastructure works were carried out. Barrier systems, “License plate recognition systems have been installed. We have created staff related to the application. Currently, nearly 40 police officers serve only in this region. This is not a small operation.”
Explaining that they will implement similar pedestrianization and controlled traffic flow in the Süleymaniye and Gedikpaşa regions, Turan said, “We have a project that has been working on for the Süleymaniye region for years. We will have a similar work in the Süleymaniye region with the IMM and the relevant ministry in the near future. We will make new decisions regarding Gedikpaşa, one of the important places of trade.” .” he said.
