Our 3rd runway, which we opened today, is positioned according to the prevailing wind direction and named as 18 (north), 36 (south) runway. In other words, the name of our runway is 18/36 runway. Our runway is 3 thousand 60 meters long and 45 meters long. The fuselage and both sections have a paved shoulder width of 15 meters. The total paved part is 75 meters, including the shoulders. The runway is in the 4F category, which allows the landing and take-off of the largest passenger aircraft. The taxiways of the runway are 23 meters in the body and in both sections. The paved shoulder width is 10.5 meters. The total width of the taxiways is 44 meters. This allows safe taxi movements of even the largest category F passenger aircraft. It includes 25 taxiways in total. There is a de-icing apron on the southern part of the runway to prevent the aircraft from icing in order to ensure traffic in cold weather conditions. In this area, de-icing service can be provided to the largest passenger aircraft. “In addition, our 3rd runway has electrical and electronic navigation systems that will allow landing and takeoff in the most difficult weather conditions, called CAT-III in aviation.”

Karaismailoğlu stated that with the third runway put into service at Istanbul Airport, both airline companies and citizens will save time, and there will be a decrease of approximately 50 percent in current taxi times, especially for domestic flights.

The second “End-Around Taxiway” also has a new runway.

will be put into service

Stating that the second “End-Around Taxiway”, which aims to relieve congestion at airports with heavy air traffic, will be put into service with the new runway, Karaismailoğlu said, “In this way, there will be no restrictions on the movements of aircraft on the ground at Istanbul Airport, where landing and taking off at the same time. In addition to our runway, today We are making three more important openings here. Our Air Traffic Control Tower, which we opened together with the runway, is 45 meters high and has 10 control positions. The 2nd tower, which will serve the runway and the east of the terminal, will operate simultaneously with the 1st tower. The two towers are at the same time. “The fact that it is active at all times is a feature found in very few airports in the world.” made his assessment.
