Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı at the ASKON Iftar Dinner.

On July 11, 2013, the Anatolian Lions Businessmen Association (ASKON) hosted an iftar dinner at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Topkapi 1453 Social Facilities with the participation of Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı.

The iftar dinner was attended by various guests, including Mustafa Destici, the Chairman of the Grand Unity Party (BBP), Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı, Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca, the President of LASİAD (Association of Anatolian Industrialists and Businessmen), and LASİAD Board Members Sabri Akten and İ. Murat Ramizoğlu.

During his speech at the iftar program, Minister Nabi Avcı reminded the attendees of the past years’ regulations that allowed the implementation of casual attire in schools. He mentioned:

“According to the regulations, if 60% of parents in private schools decided to continue with uniforms, they were allowed to do so. However, there was no such provision in the regulations for state schools. Especially mothers with daughters have been insisting for a year, saying, ‘We are tired of fighting every day about what our children will wear. This leads to a brand competition among these children. Therefore, we also want the freedom to choose uniforms like private schools.’ I told them that there was no contradiction to this in the regulations, that the freedom to choose uniforms was also within the casual attire policy, and if parents wished, they could come together and choose the uniform. However, due to the prevailing opinion that it would be more appropriate for this to be formalized through a regulation amendment, we opened it for signature in the Cabinet last week. The regulation is changing. It will be submitted to the President, published in the Official Gazette, and come into effect. Starting from the next school year, if 51% of parents in school parent-teacher associations prefer uniforms for their children, uniforms can be worn in schools. This is also included in the freedom to choose casual attire.”

ASKON President Mustafa Koca also mentioned during the iftar that they had the opportunity to gather with many friends, increasing camaraderie, and approaching various social events with different sensitivities, expressing their support.
