Minister of Commerce Ruhsar Pekcan stated that they continue to take import measures in order to protect domestic producers from the pressure of low-priced imports as a result of excess supply caused by the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
According to the written statement made by the Ministry, Pekcan met today with the President of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), İsmail Gülle, and the presidents of the Steel, Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals and Mining Sectors Exporters’ Association, within the framework of the meetings held via video conference method to evaluate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the sectors.
In her speech here, Pekcan stated that, as the Ministry, they have taken many measures to reduce the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on trade, and emphasized that they continue to take measures for imports in this context.
Pointing out that they continue to take measures for imports in order to protect domestic producers and sectors from the pressure on low-priced imports as a result of excess supply caused by the pandemic, Pekcan said, “In this context, we have endeavored to carry out meticulous studies that will not affect our imports of intermediate goods and raw materials, our producers and exporters.” said.
Stating that they attach great importance to consultation with the sectors in this regard, Pekcan said:
“We are one of the countries that carry out this process, led by our President, in the best way. As you know, our President announced the Economic Stability Shield Plan. In this process, we determined some sectors as priority sectors. We constantly work in coordination with our Ministers to address the needs of tradesmen, employees, the business world and our people. Our Minister of Treasury and Finance and our Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services are also announcing new packages. Our Minister of Treasury and Finance gave support to increase credit opportunities. They are doing very serious work. Now, Türkiye is going through a very good process. We are trying to find out how we can transform what we have experienced so far in this exit process into a positive perception and thus have a positive impact on our economic life. “
Emphasizing that Turkey has to be among the fastest-recovering countries in the world, Pekcan noted that they attach importance to listening to the demands of the business world along with the sectors, producing solutions together, and meeting with NGOs and trade consultants almost every day in this context.
Calling on exporters to focus on regions and countries that recover more easily from the epidemic, Pekcan said, “By turning to countries such as Singapore, South Korea, Japan and China, we can increase our trade and exports faster during this period when Europe slows down. “We are open to your suggestions in this direction and we are always ready to support you.” said.
Regarding the curfew, Pekcan said that exporting companies can continue their production and exports during this period, customs are open and logistics companies are also in service.
