Minister Pekcan: We see that the relocation of Jakarta has been postponed, but we must turn this into an opportunity

Minister of Commerce Ruhsar Pekcan stated that Turkish contracting and consultancy companies are extremely willing to undertake the task of relocating Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, and stated that the work was postponed a little due to the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19), but they wanted to turn this process into an opportunity as Turkey.

Turkey-Indonesia Contracting Sector Virtual Business Forum was held with the participation of Minister Pekcan, Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Settlement Basuki Hadimuljono, Turkish Contractors Association (TMB) and officials of Indonesian equivalent organizations.

In her speech here, Minister Pekcan reminded that the forum in question was planned to be held face-to-face in Turkey in April, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Stating that they organized a video conference meeting today to discuss the possible contributions of Turkish contracting and technical consultancy companies to the projects to be carried out in Indonesia, Pekcan said that investments should be mutually increased in order to increase mutual commercial relations with this country in a balanced manner. For this reason, Pekcan stated that signing the “Mutual Protection and Promotion of Investments Agreement” as soon as possible will be important for the business people of both countries.

Emphasizing that investments and increasing trade in local currencies will be effective in expanding the mutual trade volume in a balanced way, Pekcan said, “Our cooperation in the field of contracting and consultancy and participation in more projects will also increase our mutual and balanced trade. Our cooperation in the field of contracting and technical consultancy will improve our commercial and economic relations.” “It also has great potential for acceleration and acceleration.” said.

Pointing out that the Turkish contracting industry has undertaken more than 10 thousand projects worth over 400 billion dollars in 127 different countries, Pekcan stated that Indonesia is not among these countries, and that they expect Turkish contractor and consultancy companies to be more involved in this country.

Pekcan pointed out that they want to undertake more projects in contracting in Asian countries and stated that the share of Asia-Pacific countries in the total projects undertaken in the world is only 3.1 percent.

Minister Pekcan said:

“In order to diversify the market for our contracting sector and find new markets for ourselves, we focused especially on projects in Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. In this context, Indonesia is the target country for our companies. Recently, we see that our technical consultancy companies have undertaken 12 projects. They are also in Indonesia with the support of our ministry.” We want to see more of it.”

Emphasizing that contracting and technical consultancy companies have serious capacities in project preparation, EPC (Engineering-Procurement-Contract) and D&B (design and construction) projects by designing models such as build-operate-transfer and revenue sharing, Pekcan said that Turkish companies would like to share their experiences in this regard. He said that they are ready for any kind of cooperation.

Pekcan pointed out that Turkish companies have serious experience in the process of moving capital cities abroad and said, “For this reason, we evaluate that our companies will make significant contributions to the process of moving the capital of Indonesia, based on their past experiences. Our contracting and consultancy companies are extremely willing to move the capital Jakarta.” ” he said.

Reminding that countries have taken measures to reduce the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, Pekcan made the following assessment:

During this postponement period, we would like to accelerate the process by focusing on how Turkish consultancy and contracting companies can take an active role in these projects and what we can do together.”

TMB President Yenigün also said that although Turkish contractors have 50 years of experience abroad and have undertaken projects in 127 countries, they do not have any activities in Indonesia.

Stating that they are not strangers to the region, Yenigün said that they have undertaken and successfully completed nearly 900 projects worth 12.5 billion dollars in the countries there to date.

Yenigün emphasized that they are willing to work together in the coming days.
