Minister Selçuk: 3 million 576 thousand 805 people benefited from short-time working allowance

Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, in her written statement, stated that the workplaces affected by the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic will apply for short-time working allowance until June 30, and the duration of benefiting from this application will be determined by the decision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He reminded that it was extended for 2 more months.

Stating that employers who do not want to benefit from the extension because they have started their normal activities or who want to reduce the previously applied non-working periods should report this situation to İŞKUR Provincial Directorates and Service Centers, Selçuk gave the following information:

“3 million 576 thousand 805 people have benefited from the short-time working allowance since the first date of the short-time working practice. 1 million 595 thousand 467 people continued to benefit from the allowance in July. Employers did not request short-time working for 1 million 981 thousand 338 employees with the normalization process.”

“We provide normalization support to workplaces that return to normal working hours”

Emphasizing that they will continue their support under the name “Normalization Support” for workplaces that switch to normal working hours, Minister Selçuk said, “Our workplaces that switch to normal working hours will also be able to benefit from this support. Thus, we will continue to protect employment.” made his assessment.

Minister Selçuk reminded that a legal regulation has been made to make payments for short-time work applications made due to the epidemic without waiting for the eligibility determination and noted the following:

“The labor inspectors of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services have been carrying out the suitability determination inspections of the workplaces that have requested short-time working allowance since March 23, as well as the inspections regarding whether there are any practices contrary to the eligibility determination in these workplaces, with 712 labor inspectors.”
