Net profit of 15.4 billion liras in the first quarter from companies on the stock exchange

The net profit of companies traded under the BIST 100 index in Borsa Istanbul increased by 0.7 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, reaching 15 billion 380.2 million lira.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent, the net profit of publicly traded companies in the first quarter of 2020 increased by 0.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Thus, the net profit of the companies, which was 15 billion 274.6 million lira in the first quarter of 2019, increased to 15 billion 380.2 million lira in the same period of this year.

During this period, 8 companies, including Koç Holding, VakıfBank, Garanti Bank, İş Bank, Akbank, Sabancı Holding, Yapı Kredi and Halkbank, increased their net profits above 1 billion lira.

73 companies in BIST 100 made net profit

73 of the 100 companies traded under the BIST 100 index and sharing their financial results within the scope of the balance sheet disclosure period, which was extended due to the coronavirus outbreak, made a net profit in the first quarter. The remaining 27 companies announced a net loss.

According to the announced results, Koç Holding made the highest net profit among the companies in question in the first quarter with 3 billion 470 million lira.

In net profit, Koç Holding is followed by VakıfBank with 1 billion 766.4 million liras, Garanti Bank with 1 billion 662.8 million liras, İş Bankası with 1 billion 477.6 million liras, Akbank with 1 billion 302.7 million liras, and 1 billion 193.2 million liras. It was followed by Sabancı Holding with million liras, Yapı Kredi with 1 billion 129.4 million liras, and Halkbank with 1 billion 128.4 million liras.

Tüpraş announced the largest net loss in this period with 2 billion 265 million liras. In terms of net loss, Tüpraş was followed by THY with 2 billion 23 million liras, Enka İnşaat with 700.4 million liras, and Pegasus with 401.5 million liras.

Leadership in profit increase goes to Koç Holding

Koç Holding was the company that increased its net profit the most in terms of amount in the January-March period of this year compared to the same period last year. The holding’s net profit, which was 779.3 million lira in the first quarter of 2019, increased to 3 billion 470 million lira in the same period of 2020.

VakıfBank came after Koç Holding in terms of net profit increase. In the last year, VakıfBank’s net profit increased from 780.5 million lira to 1 billion 766.4 million lira.

On the other hand, there was a decrease in the net profit of 27 companies in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. During this period, Tüpraş was the company whose net profit decreased the most in terms of quantity. Tüpraş’s net loss, which was 375.2 million lira in the January-March period of last year, climbed to 2 billion 265 million lira in the first quarter of this year.

Looking at the announced data in percentage terms, it was seen that MLP Health Services took the first place in net profit increase. During the said period, the company’s net profit increased from 2 million 712 thousand lira to 50 million 366 thousand lira, indicating that the net profit increased almost 19 times.

Türk Traktör, whose net profit increased 10 times to 84 million lira, ranked second.

Ereğli, Enka and Tekfen left the top 10

The companies that were in the top 10 in the January-March period of 2019 in terms of net profit size largely managed to remain on the list in the first quarter of this year.

Garanti Bank, Akbank, İş Bank, Yapı Kredi, Turkcell, Sabancı Holding, Ereğli Demir Çelik, Enka İnşaat, Tekfen Holding and Vakıfbank were listed as the companies that made the highest net profit in the first quarter of 2019.

While Ereğli Demir Çelik, Enka İnşaat and Tekfen were removed from the list in the first quarter of this year, Koç Holding, ASELSAN and Halkbank replaced these companies.
