The growth and development of our country causes us to be affected moment by moment by every change on a global scale. While the world is constantly changing, Turkey, a large country of strategic importance, inevitably has to choose its side in terms of global balances. The friction and cyclically changing conditions between America, China, Russia and European countries also affect our country in some way. American foreign policy, which has changed sharply in recent times, is dragging us into different directions both economically and politically. As a result of this country, which we considered an ally, leaving us alone at many points and not meeting our expectations, our country has decided to chart its own path. I think one of the most important steps taken on this path will be the S400 missile defense systems we will purchase from the Russian Federation.
Turkey’s connection with the North Atlantic Defense Pact (NATO), of which it has been a member for many years, somehow pushes it to take part in the Western bloc. However, especially recently, our country has been acting more independently in its foreign policy and security strategy and continues its path in line with its interests. Of course, it is unthinkable for Turkey, which connects the continents of the world and is closely related to all of the very important regions such as the Balkans, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus, to follow a unipolar policy. Located in such a strategic geography, it is undoubtedly essential for Turkey to chart its own path in the political, economic and military fields.
Let’s take a look at the recent developments specific to the USA: As soon as the new US administration took office, it started to follow an anti-Iran policy in the region. “America First!” Based on his motto, he burned bridges with Europe by stating that he would only look after American interests. It started to impose new customs duties against China based on economics but future-oriented political concerns. He overhauled the entire eco-political atmosphere in order to attract investments and money back to America. It chose to economically clamp down on its global rivals by imposing coercive sanctions on Russia. It decided to impose economic sanctions on a friendly and ally country like Turkey. He adopted a new political vision that upset world balances in order to sell more arms. Many global agreements were either canceled or revised as they were deemed contrary to American interests. A new system was created in the Middle East in which Israel was centered and everything it did was seen as permissible. The validity of the UN and its sub-institutions in the eyes of the USA has become questionable. Decisions were made to either not support UN institutions that oppose US policies or to withdraw from membership in these institutions. Many moves were made that would be more bloody and sow the seeds of war for the future, especially in the Middle East. A new structure was established in which dictators who served US interests were held in high regard and countries that opposed them were excluded, even if they had democratic values. If countries did not adhere to US sovereignty, their economic and financial systems were attacked on the basis of dollars.
Even when we focus only on the USA in this critical period that our country is going through, we can see how complex the situation is. When we add other global powers into the equation, we can see again the importance of Turkey continuing its path in a stable administration. It is very important that we act together and in solidarity, especially in times of such economic difficulties. Global powers have never wanted people and people who oppose their interests in history, on the contrary, they have tried every way to destroy them. Even though our country has been exposed to such attacks many times in the last decade, it has stood tall and continued on its way. We are sure that this process will result in good things for us. As we always say, we will work harder, produce more and fight harder. No heedless person will be able to stumble our country and divert it from its path. As long as we continue our way in unity and solidarity. The fate of believers has been pleasant and bright throughout history. I believe that the end of this road will be beneficial for us.
