President Erdoğan made statements after the cabinet meeting.
Highlights from Erdoğan’s speech are as follows:
We are including our taxpayers in Giresun in the force majeure circumstances from August 22, 2020, to November 30, 2020. We are postponing the payment deadlines of all kinds of taxes, penalties, and temporary or delay interest that have accrued before August 22 and have a maturity date after this date or have been assessed ex officio or administratively until December 31, 2020. We have decided not to take provisional tax returns for the 3rd tax period of 2020. We are extending the deadline for the declarations and notifications to be made between August 22 and November 30 to December 15, and the payment deadline for accrued taxes to December 31.
“The harbinger of a much larger resource”
There are strong indications that the identified reserve is the harbinger of a much larger resource; hopefully, the continuation of this good news will come. In the coming period, we hope to receive similar good news in the Mediterranean.
I would like to emphasize that we will make a big move in solar energy to increase our domestic and renewable energy potential and to utilize idle resources in the economy.
We have shown that we will defend our rights by using force against those who seek to obstruct our activities in the Eastern Mediterranean. As the country with the longest coastline in the Aegean, we have fulfilled our country’s rights, laws, and interests.
“We tripled our gold reserves”
Our Central Bank has $45.4 billion in foreign currency reserves. In 2016, our gold reserves were only at the level of $14 billion. By bringing our gold abroad to our country and purchasing the gold mined in our country in Turkish Lira, we have increased our gold reserves by approximately three times.
Turkey has significant power in terms of foreign exchange and gold values. I would like to remind once again that we have found the largest reserve under the Black Sea. Hopefully, Turkey will soon have one of the world’s largest reserves in natural gas.
With the cheapening of natural gas, we will provide additional financial resources to our people in every area from housing to industry. After the discovery of a natural gas reserve that has earned the appreciation of the whole world, we can see where the minds of those who have turned our economy’s rating negative have taken this idea from, from some headlines and statements in our country.
“Our Oruç Reis ship will not step back”
(Greece’s Navtex declaration) This statement is an insolence that jeopardizes the safety of all ships in the region. From now on, Greece will be the sole culprit of any negativity that may occur in the region, and the only country to suffer will be Greece itself. With this attitude that is contrary to international law, goodwill, and neighborly relations, Greece has thrown itself into a chaos from which it cannot escape. Turkey will not take the slightest step back from the activities of our Oruç Reis ship and the accompanying naval elements.
“Let’s take a break from all kinds of mass events”
(COVID-19) Weddings, funerals, condolences, and holidays have become areas where the virus spreads. Know that one of the biggest threats is that cigarette. You are signing your own death warrant. Let’s take a break from all kinds of mass events during this period. There is no cost for us to hold our weddings with a small number of participants and in a short time. The way for Turkey to achieve its goals in production, employment, and exports also depends on the decline of the pandemic. We are obliged to make this struggle successful to advance our country’s normalization steps further. None of us can achieve comfort, peace, and security without reducing the number of patients, intensive care, and deaths below a certain threshold.
