Putin in Istanbul on October 11

Details about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible visit to Turkey have begun to emerge. Putin is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul on October 11, attend the World Energy Congress and meet with the Turkish business community as part of the Turkey-Russia Joint Economic Commission (KEK) meeting.

In his latest statement, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will also attend the World Energy Congress. This is the first official statement and confirmation of Putin’s visit to Turkey.

In his statement, Albayrak pointed out that there may be developments regarding the Turkish Stream natural gas pipeline project during the congress.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak said: “The 23rd World Energy Congress is a very important organization. Negotiations on ‘can the two sides take a positive step’ continue at this congress. My personal opinion is that we will make significant progress until the energy congress to be held in Istanbul next week.”

The congress, which will take place in Istanbul on October 9-13, hosted by the Ministry of Energy, will bring together the most important players in the energy sector. It was announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will also attend the congress, which will be attended by 60 state ministers, including the energy ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The congress, which will be held at the Istanbul Congress Center and Lütfi Kırdar Congress Center, will be attended by 60 heads of state, energy ministers and CEOs from 100 countries. Speakers will include Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Industry and Natural Resources Khalid Al-Falih, Iran’s Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian, BP Group Chief Executive Bob Dudley, as well as CEOs of Saudi Aramco, Gazprom, Shell, Total, Socar, Lukoil, OMV, EDF, EnBW, ENGIE, E.ON and Fatih Birol, President of the International Energy Agency.

Meanwhile, Putin’s Istanbul trip is reported to include the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting to be held in Istanbul on October 10-11.

Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said of Putin’s visit, “We will make the necessary announcement when all preparations are completed.” Putin and Erdogan initiated the process of normalization of relations in St. Petersburg. Putin last visited Turkey in November 2015 for the G20.”

Meanwhile, according to the statement made by the Foreign Economic Relations Council (DEIK), the Joint Economic Commission (KEK) meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at the Intercontinental Istanbul hotel.
