Renault was preferred in automobile, Ford was preferred in commercial

As of the end of June this year, the best-selling automobile brand in Turkey was Renault, and the best-selling light commercial vehicle brand was Ford.

According to the data obtained by the AA correspondent from the Automotive Distributors Association (ODD), automobile and light commercial vehicle sales in Turkey increased by 30.2 percent in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 254 thousand 68 units.

Looking only at automobile sales, the market grew by 30.2 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching 203 thousand 595 units. The light commercial vehicle market also increased by 30.2 percent, reaching 50 thousand 473 units.

Two of the top 3 companies in automobile sales are companies that produce domestically.

The brand that sold the most automobiles in the January-June period was Renault with 36 thousand 305 units. This was followed by Fiat with 25 thousand 212 units and Volkswagen (VW) with 18 thousand 885 units.

Thus, two of the top 3 in automobile sales were made up of companies engaged in domestic production.

While Peugeot ranked fourth with 15 thousand 244 vehicles in this period, Opel ranked fifth with 11 thousand 775 vehicle sales. Toyota ranked sixth with sales of 11 thousand 626 units.

While no Infiniti brand cars were sold during the said period, brands such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Bentley sold less than 10 units.

Best sellers in light commercial

When we look at the light commercial vehicle segment, Ford was at the top of the list with 17 thousand 989 units in the January-June period.

Fiat followed this with 14 thousand 345 units. Volkswagen was next with 4 thousand 871 units.

During this period, Peugeot ranked fourth in the list of brands that sold the most light commercial vehicles with 2,213 units. Mercedes-Benz ranked fifth with 2,067 units.

Fiat ranked first in total automotive sales

In the January-June period of this year, Fiat ranked first in total passenger and light commercial automotive sales with 39 thousand 557 units.

The total market of the automotive industry in 2020 is expected to be in the range of 600-650 thousand units.

Best selling brands of June

On the other hand, when only June is evaluated, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 66.3 percent compared to June 2019, reaching 70 thousand 973 units.

During this period, automobile sales increased by 58.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 57 thousand 67 units, while the light commercial vehicle market increased by 108.7 percent and reached 13 thousand 906 units.

The best selling brand in June was Renault with 12 thousand 94 units. Next, Fiat with 9 thousand 231 units and VW with 3 thousand 444 units.

In light commercial vehicles, Fiat ranked first with 5 thousand 280 units in June. This was followed by Ford with 4,566 units and VW with 1,018 units.

Gasoline and sedan cars became the reason for preference

At the end of June 2020, according to the automobile market engine type, gasoline car sales took a 50.1 percent share with 101 thousand 998 units, while diesel car sales took a 42.6 percent share with 86 thousand 684 units.

According to body types in the automobile market, the most preferred body type was again sedan cars with a share of 44.1 percent.
Sedan cars were followed by SUVs with a share of 27.6 percent and hatchbacks with a share of 25.2 percent.
