Russia and Turkey will discuss on February 9 the possibility of easing the visa regime for some categories of Turkish citizens, especially businessmen, Aleksandr Botsan-Harchenko, head of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said.
“On February 9, we plan to hold a detailed meeting with Turkey on consular issues. One of the key issues is the facilitation of the visa regime for some categories of Turkish citizens. Some facilitations are planned, they are linked to the need to further activate economic ties. First of all, this issue concerns entrepreneurs.”
FOUR-PRONGED CONTACTS WITH ANKARA
Botsan-Harchenko continued as follows: “At this stage we are not talking about abolishing the decisions taken earlier and returning to a completely visa-free regime. Of course, the complete abolition of visas will not happen very soon, but it would not be correct to say that this issue has been crossed out forever. At the moment, our contacts with Ankara have improved not only at the Foreign Ministry level, but also on the military line and on the line of special services. I hope they will bear fruit and then we will look at this issue.”
