“Special Crisis Visit to Moscow.”

“To identify and address the challenges in the Russian market, LASİAD President Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca’s suggestions led to a meeting in Moscow, led by İTHİB President İsmail Gülle, with sector representatives. LASİAD President Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca, representing LASİAD in the meetings in Moscow, held a series of discussions.

Participating in the meetings held in Moscow were İTHİB President İsmail Gülle, LASİAD President Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca, Vice Presidents Mehmet Yasubuğa, Ahmet Turan, Press Consultant Zerrin Yazıcı, MESİAD President Yusuf Gecü, OTİAD President İlker Karataş, BATİAD Vice President Şerafettin Kurt, TETSİAD Vice President Abdülhadi Köseoğlu, and a group of businessmen.

During the meetings with sector representatives, issues related to the crisis and proposed solutions were discussed. İTHİB President İsmail Gülle emphasized the depreciation in exports to Russia, saying, “Our annual export to Russia is $1.1 billion. Problems began in 2013. With the depreciation of the ruble, this figure dropped to $750 million in 2014. In the first three months of this year, the loss hit the bottom at around 50%. However, during our visit to Moscow, we saw that the crisis had bottomed out. We are in a better situation in this market compared to many other countries. However, we need special incentives for this market to protect our existing presence in the country and make new investments.” Gülle also stated that they would evaluate the requests of Turkish ready-to-wear and home textile manufacturers operating in the Russian market for organizing a “Turkish Shopping Fest” in Moscow with Turkish officials.

LASİAD President Giyasettin Eyyüpkoca highlighted that the biggest problem with Russia is the depreciation of the ruble and the high commissions charged by Russian banks in money transfers. Eyyüpkoca stated, “Reaching an agreement on a fixed exchange rate between the two countries, opening the way for the use of the ruble, reducing customs duties, reducing passenger-to-passenger sales made in Laleli, Osmanbey, and Merter to the warehouse system against the invoice, and increasing incentives in Russia can be achieved by providing new incentives.”

The delegation, including LASİAD Vice President Mehmet Yasubuğa’s Super Textile and LASİAD Vice President Ahmet Turan’s Arya company, also visited the MosBuild 2015 Fair held from March 31 to April 3, 2015. After their contacts, the delegation returned to their country.”
