The prototype electric domestic car will be introduced to Turkey with a test drive by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the coming days.
The process for the domestic car, which has been on the agenda since 2011, accelerated in 2017 under the leadership of Erdoğan. In 2017, the Turkey’s Automobile Project Joint Venture Group Cooperation Protocol was signed with Anadolu Group, BMC, Kıraça Holding, Turkcell Group and Zorlu Holding.
In addition to the ‘5 patayigits’ in the project, TOBB also became a partner in the company.
WILL INSPECT IN GEBZE
In the 6-partner project, signatures were signed and the company that will realize the project was established on May 31, 2018 under the name ‘Turkey’s Automobile Initiative Group Industry and Trade Inc. (TOGG).
Anadolu Group, BMC, Kök Group, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding each held 19 percent and TOBB held 5 percent shares in the company. Mehmet Gürcan Karakaş was appointed CEO of TOGG in June 2018 and the activities were moved to the Informatics Valley in Gebze.
Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank said, “This project will offer our country a window of opportunity in the automotive industry, which is fundamentally transformed by electric, autonomous and connected vehicle technologies.”
According to Milliyet, TOGG will introduce the prototype of the domestic vehicle in the coming days. Erdoğan is expected to inspect the work on the domestic car on site in Gebze and test the vehicle at this time.
100 PERCENT DOMESTIC ELECTRIC ‘SUV’
The preview of the vehicle, an electric, 100 percent electric SUV in the C segment, whose intellectual and industrial property rights are fully owned by Turkey’s Automobile Initiative Group, will be made from a real-sized and working vehicle.
The vehicle is targeted to be launched in 2022. A survey of citizens was also influential in determining the model in question. The number of models is expected to reach 5 by 2030.
