Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hami Aksoy responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements that they are implementing a “red line policy” against Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean by saying, “Those who think they can draw red lines against Turkey’s just cause in the Eastern Mediterranean will only face our country’s determined stance.”
Aksoy responded in writing to the question about Macron’s statements about the “red line policy” in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In response to Macron’s words, Aksoy used the following statement: “Those who think they can draw red lines against Turkey’s just cause in the Eastern Mediterranean will only face our country’s determined stance. If there is a red line in the region, it is only the rights arising from international law of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots.” He noted that it was time for those who see themselves in a giant mirror to face the truths and that the era of determining maps by drawing lines with imperialist understandings was left behind.
Aksoy noted the following:
“Turkey is capable of deterring anyone who attempts to forcibly seize its legitimate rights and interests by sending an ‘armada’.
In this context, we would like to remind that disputes in the Eastern Mediterranean will be resolved on the basis of justice through dialogue and cooperation among coastal countries, not with the provocations of non-regional actors.”
Macron, at a meeting with journalists in Paris at the end of the summer, used the statement “I can say that the Turks only take this (the consistency of words and actions) into account and respect it. What France did this summer was important. This is a red line policy.” regarding the sovereignty disputes in the Mediterranean.
