The number of houses sold in March increased by 3.4 percent compared to the same month last year

Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the housing sales statistics for March.

Accordingly, while the number of houses sold across the country in March decreased by 8.49 percent compared to the previous month, it increased by 3.4 percent compared to the same month last year and became 108 thousand 670.

Istanbul ranked first (18.3 percent) in house sales with 19 thousand 846 houses. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 12 thousand 409 house sales (11.4 percent) and İzmir with 7 thousand 131 sales (6.6 percent). The provinces with the least sales were Hakkari with 7 houses, Ardahan with 10 houses and Bayburt with 37 houses.

Mortgaged house sales

In this period, mortgaged house sales increased by 90.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 43 thousand 329. The share of mortgaged sales in total house sales was determined as 39.9 percent. Istanbul ranked first in mortgaged sales with 7 thousand 843 houses and 18.1 percent share. The province with the least number of mortgaged house sales was Hakkari with 2 houses.

Other house sales were determined as 65 thousand 341 in March, with a decrease of 20.6 percent on an annual basis. In this category, Istanbul ranked first with 12 thousand 3 house sales and 18.4 percent share.

The share of other sales in total house sales in Istanbul was recorded as 60.5 percent. Ankara ranked second with 6 thousand 408 other house sales, followed by İzmir with 3 thousand 954 sales. The province with the least number of other house sales was Hakkari with 5 houses.

34 thousand 89 houses sold for the first time

The number of houses sold for the first time decreased by 22.8 percent in March compared to the same month of last year and decreased to 34 thousand 89. The share of the first sale in total house sales was 31.4 percent. Istanbul had the highest share in the first sales with 6 thousand 439 houses. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 3 thousand 308 house sales and Izmir with 2 thousand 108 sales.

Second-hand house sales increased by 22.5 percent in March compared to the same period last year and reached 74 thousand 581.

Istanbul ranked first in this field with 13 thousand 407 second-hand house sales and 18 percent share. The share of second-hand sales in total house sales in Istanbul was 67.6 percent. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 9 thousand 101 house sales and Izmir with 5 thousand 23 sales.

3 thousand 36 houses sold to foreigners

House sales to foreigners decreased by 3 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 3 thousand 36. Istanbul ranked first in this field with 1513 house sales, followed by Antalya with 584, Ankara with 165, Mersin with 110 and Bursa with 93.

In March, Iranian citizens bought 465 houses in Turkey, Iraqi citizens 426, Russian citizens 227, Afghanistan citizens 184, Palestinian citizens 119.

House sales increased by 33 percent in January-March

In the January-March period, house sales increased by 33 percent to 341 thousand 38. In this period, mortgaged house sales increased by 238.6 percent to 129 thousand 299. Other types of sales decreased by 3 percent to 211 thousand 739.

In the same period, houses sold for the first time decreased by 0.4 percent to 107 thousand 432. Second-hand house sales increased by 57.2 percent to 233 thousand 606.
