The work carried out on the number one runway of Istanbul New Airport (IGA), whose construction is in full swing and 30 percent of which has been completed, was photographed from the air. The rough construction of the main terminal building of the airport, which will make Turkey one of the world’s most important aviation centers when completed, is planned to be completed by the end of the year. According to the news of Sabah, İGA, which was established to realize the construction of the airport and operate it for 25 years, shared the last aerial images of the runway number 1, which is under construction at the airport, the first phase of which will be put into service on February 26, 2018, on its social media accounts.
TO BE COMPLETED IN 4 PHASES
It is seen that the 3,750-meter-long and 60-meter-wide runway, where large-bodied aircraft such as Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 can easily land and take off, has reached the final stage. The airport, which is being built on an area of 76.5 million square meters, 35 kilometers to the north of Istanbul, 35 kilometers from the city center, consists of 4 stages, each of which is planned separately. In the first phase of the first stage of the project, there will be 2 independent parallel runways, which will be 1,700 meters apart, 2 dependent runways and the main terminal building with a capacity of 90 million passengers.
PRELIMINARY DEMAND IS BEING COLLECTED
With the completion of the second phase of the first phase, the third independent parallel runway will be commissioned. When all phases are completed, the new airport will host flights to more than 350 destinations and more than 150 airline companies with an annual capacity of 200 million passengers. The airport will provide new employment for 100,000 people directly and 1.5 million people through subsidiary sectors. Pre-demand has started to be collected for 300 cargo agency offices to be located in the customs area within the 1.4 million square meter ‘Cargo City’ at the airport. There are 3 different price categories for 300 offices ranging from 13 to 19 square meters in the three-storey office block.
