A Turkish Armed Forces plane that will deliver aid supplies and personnel from Turkey to Lebanon has reportedly landed in Beirut.
In a statement made on the official Twitter account of the Ministry of National Defense, it was stated: “Our plane belonging to the Turkish Armed Forces, which took off from Ankara with medical aid materials, equipment and search and rescue personnel, has arrived in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, where the explosion occurred.”
Turkey has sent medical and humanitarian supplies and search and rescue personnel to the region following the explosion in Beirut on the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The materials prepared by the Ministry of Health, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and Red Crescent were loaded onto an A 400M military cargo plane at Etimesgut Military Airport.
The Ministry of Health is sending 21 UMKE personnel, two emergency response units, 3 personnel shelter tents, medicines and medical supplies, AFAD is sending 10 personnel, equipment, a rescue vehicle and the Turkish Red Crescent is sending 3 personnel, search and rescue team, health and humanitarian aid materials to the region.
On the other hand, AFAD President Mehmet Güllüoğlu, who made a statement to the press members at Etimesgut Military Airport before the cargo plane took off, said that they were preparing to send the requested support after the explosion in Beirut.
Güllüoğlu said that there was a serious trauma in the region after the explosion and that a UMKE team of 20 people consisting of orthopedics, general surgery, emergency medicine specialists and auxiliary health personnel, including surgical teams specialized in trauma treatment, will go to the region.
“Turkey will not leave Lebanon alone”
Turkey’s Ambassador to Beirut Hakan Çakıl, who welcomed the Turkish Armed Forces plane upon its landing in Beirut, made statements to AA correspondent.
Stating that a medical team has been delivered to Lebanon to assist in search and rescue operations, Çakıl said that Turkey will not leave Lebanon alone.
