According to the January-August 2020 foreign visitor statistics of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkey hosted approximately 10 million visitors in the first 8 months.
According to the written statement made by the Ministry, in tourism, which is one of the sectors most affected by the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) affecting the world, Turkey reached a total of 9 million 271 thousand 660 visitors in 8 months, including citizens residing abroad.
Of this 8-month number of visitors, 2 million 16 thousand 553 were Turks living abroad and 7 million 255 thousand 107 were foreign visitors.
Germany ranked 1st with 789 thousand 602 visitors, Russian Federation ranked 2nd with 772 thousand 686 visitors, Bulgaria ranked 3rd with 532 thousand 417 visitors. Ukraine and England followed this order.
In the ranking of the countries with the highest number of visitors to Turkey in August, Russian Federation ranked 1st with 439 thousand 731 visitors, England ranked 2nd with 260 thousand 846 visitors, Ukraine ranked 3rd with 255 thousand 651 visitors. Ukraine was followed by Germany and Bulgaria.
Turkey hosted a total of 9 million 271 thousand 660 visitors from abroad with a decrease of 73.94 percent in 8 months compared to the same period of the previous year.
On the other hand, Antalya was the most preferred city for Russians, who are among the most frequent visitors to Turkey in August.
