Turkey hosted 42 million 910 thousand 408 foreign visitors in the 11-month period of 2019.
According to a written statement by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey in November this year was 2 million 190 thousand 622, an increase of 11.41 percent compared to November 2018.
According to the Ministry’s January-November 2019 border data, the number of foreigners visiting Turkey in 11 months increased by 14.31 percent compared to the 11-month period of 2018 and reached 42 million 910 thousand 408.
Countries sending the most visitors
In the ranking of the countries where the most visitors came to Turkey in the 11-month period of the year, the Russian Federation ranked first with an increase of 17.42 percent compared to the same period of the previous year (6 million 887 thousand 136 people), Germany ranked second with an increase of 11.57 percent (4 million 835 thousand 626 people), England ranked third with an increase of 13.30 percent (2 million 506 thousand 246 people). Bulgaria and Iran followed the UK.
In November, compared to the same month of 2018, Bulgaria ranked first with an increase of 8.35 percent (230 thousand 220 people), Russian Federation ranked second with an increase of 36.85 percent (192 thousand 683 people) and Germany ranked third with an increase of 4.32 percent (186 thousand 132 people). Georgia and Iran followed Germany.
Turkey is the sixth most visited country worldwide
According to the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) December 2019 data, Turkey maintained its sixth place in the global visitor ranking in 2018.
In 2018, the latest data released by UNWTO, Turkey ranked 15th in the world tourism revenues.
Turkey, the sixth country with the highest tourism revenues in Europe, was also the fourth country hosting the most tourists in Europe.
