Turkey will grow with exports in 2019

ccording to the presidential program for 2019, economic growth next year is expected to be driven by exports of goods and services.

The decision on the approval of the “2019 Presidential Annual Program” prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and the Presidency of Strategy and Budget was published in the repeated issue of the Official Gazette.

Accordingly, it is aimed to implement the policies and measures for the macroeconomic balancing process envisaged in the 2019-2021 Medium Term Program (MTP) announced within the scope of the New Economy Program (NEP) in a fast and effective manner.

In the first year of the MTP, which aims to restore price stability and financial stability in the short term, to ensure balancing and budget discipline in the economy, and to realize economic change towards sustainable growth and equitable sharing in the medium term, the GDP growth rate is expected to be 2.3 percent, while value added is expected to increase by 1.5 percent in the agricultural sector, 1.6 percent in the industrial sector and 2.6 percent in the services sector (including construction).

In terms of employment, within the framework of the rebalancing process in the economy and the low growth rates implied by this process, employment growth is projected to slow down slightly and increase by 439 thousand persons compared to the previous year, while the unemployment rate is expected to rise to 12.1 percent. The labor force participation rate is expected to continue its upward trend, rising by 0.5 percentage points to 53.7 percent in 2019.
