Campaigns to support the Turkish lira against the US sanctions were launched in Lebanon’s capital Beirut and Sayda cities.
Speaking to AA correspondent about the campaign in support of the Turkish lira in Lebanon, Hani Hariri, an official of the Revwad Scout Association in Sayda city, stated that Turkey is being tried to be worn down by economic attacks after the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
In this context, Hariri stated that they “launched a campaign in support of the Turkish lira” to show their support for Turkey.
“We stand in solidarity with the Turkish people”
“With this simple campaign, we also want to announce our solidarity with the Turkish people in the face of this artificial crisis from the United States,” Hariri said about the campaign against the conspiracies targeting the Turkish economy.
Hariri said that they have seen the support of Lebanese people on social media since the signs of sanctions against Turkey, adding that there has been a great interest in the Turkish lira at the foreign exchange centers in Sayda.
“We all owe it to Turkey to support it”
Hilal Huho, a resident of Sayda, said that they wanted to participate in the Turkish lira campaign, but they had difficulties in finding Turkish lira at the exchange offices.
Emphasizing that she was able to find Turkish lira after visiting many exchange offices, Huho said that they are honored to stand by Turkey until the end.
Ahmed et-Tayş, a businessman from Sayda, said that they converted tens of thousands of dollars into Turkish lira and added, “We all owe it to support Turkey, which is the symbol of development and civilization in the Islamic world. Turkey, which protects the oppressed of the world, is not alone.”
Support campaigns of shopkeepers in the capital
Many shopkeepers in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, launched discount campaigns of up to 50 percent for customers who will shop with Turkish lira under the name of “support for the right and solidarity with the Turkish people”.
Topkapı Jewelry, located on Beirut’s Talat Nuri Street, decided to offer a 25 percent discount to its customers who will shop with Turkish lira. Topkapi Jewelry announced that the campaign, which started today, will last until August 20.
Hediyeti Chain of Stores in the capital also organized a two-day discount campaign for citizens who shop with Turkish lira, today and tomorrow.
Isam Sencer Toy store also announced a 25 percent discount for customers who buy in Turkish lira in the face of economic attacks against Turkey.
Store owner Sencer said that as Lebanese, they launched this campaign to support the Turkish lira against the US dollar, adding that they will continue their efforts to support the Turkish economy and solidarity with its people.
Walid Murra Chain of Stores, which sells antiques and souvenirs, announced that they decided to give a 50 percent discount to citizens who will use the Turkish lira until the end of the month.
President Erdoğan’s call was answered
Abdullah Ghaziri, who owns a foreign exchange office in the capital, said that Lebanese people flocked to foreign exchange offices to buy Turkish liras starting from 200 dollars following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s call to “exchange your dollars”.
Gaziri said that when they ask Lebanese who want to convert their foreign currency into Turkish liras, “Are you going to Turkey?”, they get the answer “No, we are exchanging it because President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for it”, but they have difficulty in providing Turkish liras to their customers.
