According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, Turkey’s exports, which were 167 billion 920 million dollars in 2018, reached 171 billion 530 million dollars in 2019.
While 109 billion 289 million dollars of exports were made to the countries in the top 20 in the export ranking in 2018, sales of 111 billion 240 million dollars were made last year. Thus, 64.9 percent of exports in 2019 were made to these countries.
Iran and Morocco entered the list
In the list of the top 20 countries, there was an increase in exports to Libya, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Netherlands, Russia, UAE, Israel, Egypt, Iraq and France. Bulgaria and Algeria, which were on the list in 2018, could not make it to the list in 2019. Instead of these countries, Iran and Morocco were on the list.
Changes in the rankings on the list also attracted attention. The biggest change was observed in Belgium. Belgium, which was the 9th country to which Turkey exported the most in 2018, dropped to 15th place last year.
On the other hand, Russia’s exports in 2019 increased by 13.4 percent compared to the previous year and approached 4 billion dollars. Thus, Russia rose to 11th place on the list.
The top country did not change
Germany retained its first place, but exports to this country decreased by 701.5 million dollars compared to the previous year, reaching 14.3 billion dollars. Germany was followed by the United Kingdom with 10.8 billion dollars, Italy with 9.2 billion dollars, Iraq with 8.9 billion dollars and the USA with 8 billion dollars.
In the said period, the highest increase in exports in proportional terms was in sales to Libya with 31 percent. This country was followed by Saudi Arabia with 20.9 percent, Morocco with 16 percent and the Netherlands with 14.4 percent.
