USA appointed ambassador to Venezuela after 10 years

The USA appointed an ambassador to Venezuela after 10 years.

James Story’s nomination for ambassador was approved by a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

It was stated that Story will serve as the US Ambassador to Caracas from Bogota, the capital of neighboring Colombia.

It is estimated that James Story will play an important role in guiding US policy on Venezuela during the term of US President-elect Joe Biden.

US-Venezuela relations began to deteriorate during the reign of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

The United States and Venezuela have not mutually appointed ambassadors since 2010.

After the Washington administration supported Juan Guaido, the President of the opposition-controlled National Assembly in Venezuela, who declared himself the “interim president”, the two countries completely severed diplomatic relations and withdrew their diplomats last year.
