What’s going on in this street?

Boutique florists, ‘hip’ cafes, boutiques, record stores… This is Ahmet Fetgari Street, Istanbul’s new center of attraction. How did a neighborhood that residents describe as a ‘back alley’ turn into a ‘Brooklyn’ like atmosphere? Here is the big change in a short time from the eyes of shopkeepers and new residents…

Human landscapes from the Nişantaşı-Teşvikiye line on weekdays… Tourist caravans walking side by side in fours and fives on Abdi İpekçi Street, the jön crew on Atiye Street with their short trousers and gelled hair, the social media addicts taking photos in front of Hüsrev Gerede on Teşvikiye Street, in front of every fancy door… And a bored crowd watching them with frustrated eyes, packed into various cafes. The neighborhood that was once a ‘center of attraction’ is tired, unexciting and under a strange invasion…
